Is animal testing necessary?

Today, there are so many problems related to animal rights. People use animals for testing. Then, do you know that 70,000 dogs are used in laboratory experiments in the United States each year? It is the statistics from Beagle Freedom Project. Furthermore,  more than 115  million animals are used in laboratory experiments around the world each year for human’s cosmetics and vaccine experiments according to British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection. However, there are not consideration into animal’s rights, and it is not efficient.

The writer points out 5 reasons  to stop animal testing. He says that it is unethical, bad science, wasteful, archaic, and unneccessary. I totally agree with this agreement. I think the animal testing is bad for our society. There are 3 reasons why I think like that.

First, animal testing is the thing that eliminates the animal’s right.  According to Humane Society International, briefly 100,000 to 200,000 animals are in a lot of pain for cosmetics annually. For example, in U.S., more than 100 million animals are died because of various animal testing according to PETA. These animals, such as mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs, suffer through evaluations for skin irritation, eye irritation and any kind of toxicity. Are these things right? Then, look at the efficiency of these things.

The second point is that animal testing is ineffective experiment. According to Speaking of research, 92% of drugs that are tested successfully in animals failed during human trials. It means that only 8% of successful drugs through animal testing can be used for the human being. It is very ineffective thing, but United States spends about $16 billion dollars every year for animal testing with tax payer’s money. Is it all that animal testing is ineffective? No! The animal testing is basically wrong because human being differs from animals. It is the most important reason why we should stop animal testing.

Final thing is that it is illegal experiment. For example, in U.S., three states are already passed the laws that prohibit animal testing, and in Canada, the government amended the Food and Drugs Act to prohibit cosmetic animal testing. Furthermore, the EU also formerly prohibited testing of animal products in 2004, and animal-tested ingredients were forbidden in 2008.

It explains you several things that you should know about animal testing, and arouses people’s attention. Especially, 1:25~1:33, there is a monkey in great agony. It is terrible scene.

This video will help you understand that there are still many animal testing in the world. It is a promotinonal video for the organization that is fighting for animals’ rights.

Then, why are there so many animal testings in the world? It is mainly because of their belif that animal testing can save humans. Actually, many diseases, such as breast cancer, diabetes, flu, and Alzheimer’s disease, made developments through the animal testing.

In conclusion, the animal testing is important issue in modern society. Many social organizations suggest that animal testing is immoral thing. It makes animal in pain and it uses our tax inefficiently, and it is not efficient because of its success rate. Therefore, it is one of the most important issues that should be removed in nowadays. Then, it will save the animals which are suffered from illegal animal experiments.

What do you think about that? Do you think it is right? I think their action is not appropriate. Of course, there are big antipathies between South Korea and Japan. Japan invaded Korea, saying that Japanese were superior to Korean. They plundered Korea’s resources, including the Korean. However, is it right to wear clothes that express the historical accident, “Hiroshima nightmare”? I think there are no consideration for the victims. They are the singers that sing in the Japan. They are not the politicians who act and say for the country’s profit. They had to consider Japanese’s mind. Furthermore, they have more issues related to praising Nazi. 

What do you think about this? I think they don’t think their strong influences. They are not “ordinary” citizens. Their action can influence their fan, so they should be careful all the actions that they make.

In summary, I think that they are doing like ordinary citizens although they are not ordinary citizens. If they want to succeed as “legends”, they should think their influences and they should widen their mental vision.

Do you think studying is the most important thing in your life? If you think like that, then also do you think it is natural to have stress related going to college? In my opinion, I think it is not reasonable to have stress about that.

It is 5 stress factors for high school students.

After read this link, what did you think? In my case, I emphasized the 5 stress factors. Especially, concerns about college were my worst stressful things. When I was third grade in high school, I was pressed by my parents. They said, ” College is the easiest way to succeed. If you do not go to college, you cannot go to upper class. You will live like your parents.” It was very stressful thing for me. Also, my mom compared me with her friends’ children., saying, ” He went to good college, and he got a excellent job. He earned so much money.” Do you have experiences like my cases? If you do not have like these experiences, I will explain more details why going to college is so stressful for teenagers.

First, going to college can be a measure, comparing each other. Teenagers are compared by friends, or teachers. In case of teachers, they compare excellent students with the incompetent students accoding to their grades. They say to incompetent students, ” What would you do when you grow up? With your terrible grades, you cannot do anything.” Of course, it is a extreme case, but there are implicit discriminations between excellent students and incompetent students. In case of friends, they go about together according to their grades. It is limited to high competitive schools, but there are implicit competitions about grades between students whether it is high competitive schools or poor competitive schools.

Second, going to college is a kind of competition for parents. In national holidays, when relatives are  gathering together, they compare their children to compete or boast each other. It is very stressful to be compared their smart relatives. Considering these circumstances, children’s going to college can be parents’ pride. They boast their children to their neighbors or friends. If the children do not meet parents’ expectations, they scold their children, saying  “We invested you so much. We provided you with food, clothing, and place to live, even your expensive academies.”

Then, do you know why teenagers should go to college? In other words, do you know the reason why going to college is so important?

Mark Zuckerberg says the experience of the college life helped him to succeed. Also he think that college degree will help you in several ways. In my opinion, I agree with him. Good college can be a measure for finding the job, and it is helpful for making the good first impression. Even good college can increase self-esteem. However, is it reasonable to go to college because of other aspects, not the learning? Then is it reasonable to be stressful to go to college?

Watch this video. She says her difficulties at school.  I think these unreasonable stress is not good for teenagers. In my opinion, school should give students the ways how to relieve stress or how to control their mind. Just saying students, ” You should study.” like this, is not reasonable.

In summary, going to college is a extremely stressful thing for the teenagers. They are compared by friends, teachers, and their parents. Also, going to college is related to teenagers’  whole life. It will be stressful for the teenagers. So, school should educate students ways how to manage stress efficiently, and rightly. It will decrease students’ stress related to going to college.

Youtuber Nick

Today, there are so many Youtubers. Through Youtubers, you can learn other cultures, or see beautiful scenes. You can interact them by writing a comment. I will introduce you one of them, Travel Youtuber Nick. Nick is from New Zealand, and he has a belief that vloggers have a responsibility to show the “real” world. He travels and releases his videos to his Youtube, Facebook, or blogs about the world that he travelled.

I will introduce you two videos that he released on youtube.

 

 

 

 

In this video, he says many things that you should have attention, and the several North Korea’s culture. I think the culture, he says in the videos, is surrealistic. If you take picture or move outside, you should be monitored by someone. If you take statue related to Kim il-sung and Kim jongil, you should take picture not to be partially framed; the leaders should be fully framed. It is very limited life.

 

The country also induces the anti-American sentiment. If you see this video 2:40~2:50, you can understand what it is. Then is it all the demerits? No. The North Koreans do not have their own cars mostly. Most of the cars are owned by company, government, or army. It is very terrible country, isn’t it? However, they have extremely clear subway. The subway is old-fashioned, but there are no scribbles in the subway station.

 

 

 

 

If you see this video, you can think like this. ‘Is it same country with South Korea?’ If you know South Korea, and you have a experience in South Korea, you can feel the huge gap between North Korea and South Korea. I think if I sort North Korea as ‘agricultural country’,  it is not awkward thing. They don’t have any high technology, and don’t have any remarkable things. Their road and their work conditions are terrible. Watch video 9:55~ 10:30. It is like the picture of 1980s or 1990s. What do you think about that? Do you agree with me? If you don’t agree with me, watch video 11:55~ 12:20. They live too much “traditionally”.

After watching these two videos, what do you think? In my opinion, living in North Korea is very terrible. I feel intense impressions. Before watching these videos, I think North Korea is same with South Korea in part. However, after watching these videos, I realized  that the North Koreans do not have free, and their living conditions are terrible. It is same life of 1980s. You can think differently with me, but I think it is not good. The North Koreans can think they are satisfied with North Korea. However, it is the case that experiences spoiled them. So, I recommend you this video if you want to know North Korea more than before or if you want to go to North Korea someday.

Cultural Difference

Cultural difference is the difference from culture to culture. It makes people embarassed when they go to other country. It makes native people embarassed, too. For example, American people can say other people easily. However, Koreans do not. In that case, when American people go to Korea, and talk to Koreans like friend or easily, it can be rude for the Koreans. In my case, when I walk to local library, one American says me, “You are like my friends ~~” but it was embarassing to me.

There are so many Chinese people, and Vietnams in my country. When I go to Jeju island, I saw Chinese people who talk to each other too loudly. They don’t consider other people. In case of Vietnams, in my university, they do too many bad things. They smoke in the university, drink alcohol, and throw trash everywhere. Even they do catcalling to Korean women.

Watch this video. Then you can understand Chinese people or other country’s people. The speaker says that it can be helpful to learn Chinese or their culture for understanding them. The speaker says that they think relationship is very important for their life. It is related to Confucis, who is accepted Chinese Jesus. There are four important concepts: Guanxi, Renqing, Harmony, and Face. The speaker says that these four concepts will help you to success in China. After watcing this video, I thought that my prejudice about Chinese people was not right.

If you have bad experiences in other countries, then watch this video. Do you have proper perception about yourself? The speaker says that people see the thing that they want to see, and don’t see the thing that they see actually. Culture is a system of behavior that helps us act in an accepted or familiar way. It makes people think differently. For example, when two people see same picture, their opinion can be different completely. Someone can say something is beautiful, but someone can say it isn’t.

In the ways to line up, it is very different from country to country. In Finland, they have wide spaces each other.  In France, they line very uniquely. In the ways to drive, it is different, too. If you watch this video, and see the picture, you can laugh!

In conclusion, if you go to other country, you see yourself. Think that your action, and your thought would be proper for the country. It will be helpful to understand the country.

Book Review: Killing Commendatore

     Do you know about Murakami Haruki? If you don’t know about him, then after my review about his latest book, read his books. His books have depressing, supernatual, and fatalistic characteristics. But at the same time, his books have a power to read without being boring. This is a story about strange and weird things that a nameless portrait artist experienced after living his best friend Amada Masahiko’s father’s house. I will introduce you why this book is interesting.

 

First,  this book has a power to concentrate people to read it carefully. It deals with sensitive issues like the Nanjing Massacre, and the Second World War indirectly, but there is no inconvenience. The author melts it naturally with his humor.

Second,  this book gives mysterious feeling through its supernatural mood. I think the supernatural characteristic is the most attractive thing in this work. For example, the appearance of Commendatore makes the book’s atmosphere more fascinationg, and it makes plot flow naturally. If there was not mysterious mood, I think that the book could be boring.

Third, it succeeded to blend western thing and japanese thing. The story flows through western thing “Killing Commendatore”, but also uses japanese myth.

 

Finishing my review, I leave impressive quotes from this book.

“The hardship is bound to come, and it is a good chance to restart life. So, the more harsh it is, the more useful it is unless you are not frustrated with the hardship.”

 

Ted Talks- Brave Journalists

In the world, there are many brave people. Someone takes a gun to save people, someone spares no efforts to assist people, and someone writes something for society. I will tell you people who are writing and giving information for society. They are called journalists. In ted talks, the speaker represented investigative journalists as ‘Lone Woleves.’  They keep their information secret from anybody, including their editors and families. In my opinion, I think it is not very good thing. It can be dangerous, and also useless thing. My action can be oppressed by someone, or I can lose everything I have. So, I think it should be done thoroughly, safely, and effectively. It is very dangerous thing, but they did it.  After I listened the speaker’s words several times, I learned that the world is developing because of those people who stake their own life on the job. It is very wonderful, but uncomfortable thing for me. I realizes my incompetence through those ‘brave’ people.

My Childish Action and My Friend

Do you have a friend?

     Of course, I have a friend whom I have known since I was high school student. He is considerate and do his best all the things.  But I had a problem with him because of his actions. He did efforts not to use money at all times. So, when I met him, he flared up my temper. Therefore, I broke off the contact approximately 3 months. However, I’m friend with him now. How? I appologized for him about that. I think it was very selfish action, and I think I should have told him my feelings directly. It was my worst childish action that I have made in my life!

Introducing Myself in Jeju

In this summer, I had a short travel to Jeju with my friends. To travel, I and my friends planned where we should go, what we would eat, when we go to travel.  While we are making plans for Jeju travel, we were happy and excited. But actually, the result was not so good. It was rainy all day, and the plan was hard to achieve because of time.

Then how did we respond to it? We abandoned all the plans! We did things that we wanted at that moment. We ate Jeju native black pig because we wanted to eat at that moment, and it was not in our plan. In our first travel, I learned that the most important thing in the trip is not planning, but the attitude to enjoy it.

I think enjoying something is very diffrent from each other. Someone can think time is gold, and should use it effectively. Looked at from that point of view, my travel could be seen boring, but effectiveness is not all the thing in life.  Like the idiom, “Time belongs to those who enjoy it.”,  my travel was excited for me!
